Experience the fascinating vestiges of Paris' past with a ticket to the mysterious Catacombs.
It was decided to evacuate the cemeteries, where the dead were buried for hundreds of years in many parts of Paris, as a result of a decision taken on November 9, 1785, as a result of the complaints that came to be seen as the source of epidemic diseases over time. The first cemetery to be evacuated was the Cimetière des Innocents, or Innocents Cemetery, in what can now be described as the western side of the Forum des Halles, located between the present-day Châtelet and Châtelet-Les Halles. The bones excavated from the Innocents Cemetery were moved one by one to the quarries located under Denfert-Rochereau today.
